My SO and I just recently purchased our very own first home. With full rain to plan a practical and useful garden. Only time we have ever had any type of garden was when we rented a house for nearly 7 yrs, during our 5th year we decided to play around with the idea with raised bed gardens. But nothing to the magnatude. Before our gardens have almost been very micro grows, enough for a few salads or some veggies to juice in the morning, but this year we finally went all out. Sure we only did two (which is actually 6 separate raised beds built together as one piece from a quick outside appearance.) So very proud of my SO for making this possible and really putting a good majority or the work into the garden. My son and SO built the beds in one weekend... and dug underneath each about two feet, filled them with sticks and branches, leafs, and grass clipping from top of our compost pile. Followed by six or eight bags of organic soil. We had started seeds inside, and Chakra (the cat) decided to make sure they wouldn't survive. Between knocking them over in window seal where I was in process of germinating seeds and eating any sort of start of plant life that came about. But we were fortunate enough to find a nice older couple, who grew locally and advertised on our local craigslist ads. All organic, all sorts of veggies they had. We ended up with five different tomatoes, six types of peppers, cucumbers, black beauty zucchini, bok choy, and a filled in any empty space with kale. We eat or blend it into drinks daily so you can never have too much kale available in my opinion. Super great for you, and looks so pretty as an addition to any garden. So after a few trial and errors in its development, I am happy to say this years garden has allowed not only some great educational process for us adults, but the kids. all three have experienced growth and knowledge from this project. Along with a ton of delicious, nutritious meals for my entire family. Which is helpful with three growing kids. Worrying about where your food is from shouldn't have to be an extra worry. There's more than enough worries in parenthood in general. This way we know from farm to plate where and what the process was to grow the veggies we eat daily. And that's something to celebrate.
